The animal market
The market is where accreditation becomes visible: what you can buy is gated by tier, and what you pay is measured in Conservation Credits.
In Franchise you buy animals with Conservation Credits (CC), not cash. Cash runs the zoo; CC buys the animals and the reserves. That separation is why a zoo can look profitable and still be unable to acquire anything.
What gates supply
| Gate | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Accreditation tier | Which species appear in the pool at all (tiers add species in batches) |
| Market restock | How many animals are listed at a given time |
| Sex balance | Whether the animal you need is available as male or female |
| Credit balance | What you can afford once a listing appears |
What the patches changed
- 1.0.4 increased access to initial animal trading volumes and fixed juvenile shoals being impossible to list for trading.
- 1.0.5 increased the volume of animals added to the market, rebalanced male and female animals available for cash, and improved the balance of male and female births in Franchise.
Those three changes matter together: if you read a launch-week guide complaining that the market was empty, it probably predates 1.0.5.
A buying order that avoids waste
- Read the species page first — barrier, space, temperature and group limits decide whether the animal can live in what you have.
- Check the tier: the species must be unlocked before the market will list it.
- Buy the pair, not the group, unless the habitat and the per-sex cap can take more.
- Keep enough CC for one habitat repair — a stalled build is more expensive than a missed listing.
- Bank CC for the tier-4 storage reward if breeding is your bottleneck.

FAQ
Common questions about this topic.
Why is the animal market empty?
Check the tier (species must be unlocked), then the restock timing. 1.0.5 raised supply and server capacity; if the market stays empty, report it.
What are Conservation Credits for?
Buying animals and paying for reserve work. They are separate from cash, which runs the zoo.
Can I sell animals back?
Trading exists in Franchise for surplus stock; the market fixes in 1.0.4 and 1.0.5 changed what can be listed, including juvenile shoals.
